Tiffin recognized with distinction for 42nd year

TIFFIN, Ohio – March 15, 2023 – The City of Tiffin was named a 2022 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to effective urban forest management. This is the 42nd year that Tiffin has been recognized with this distinction.

The title of Tree City USA was bestowed upon Tiffin for its ongoing efforts to maintain and improve quality of life through a comprehensive tree management program. The program is guided by the Tree Commission and the municipal government.

The Ohio DNR, Division of Forestry's Urban Forestry Assistance Program acts as a guiding hand in helping a community to become qualified as a Tree City USA. The Regional Urban Forester recommends a community to the Arbor Day Foundation for this standing. To achieve the title and the honors, a community must meet four standards:
• A Tree Ordinance
• An active Tree Commission or forestry department
• A comprehensive urban forestry program supported by a minimum of two dollars per capita
• An annual Arbor Day proclamation and public observance.

Awards for Tree City USA are held each year in the Spring. Details about Tiffin’s Arbor Day celebration will be announced soon.

Tiffin Mayor Dawn Iannantuono said, “I’m so proud to see that Tiffin has been named Tree City USA for 42 years! Many thanks go out to the volunteers who are part of the Shade Tree Commission, as well as the staff at the Parks and Recreation and Public Works departments who provide their talents to maintain our urban forest.”
