TIFFIN, Ohio – April 6, 2023 – The City of Tiffin recently received federal funding from Ohio Department of Transportation to greatly reduce the cost to resurface the city’s portion of US 224. The project could begin as soon as 2025.

ODOT notified the City of Tiffin that it is receiving federal Urban Paving Program funds to assist with the resurfacing of U.S. 224 between SR 18 and TR 18. The total estimated project cost is $498,582 of which $354,547 is being funded through the program. With funding available in July 2025, construction may take place in 2025 or 2026.

With the receipt of this funding, the city has received more than $5.7 million in additional state and federal grant dollars for the city’s road infrastructure since the road and bridge levy was passed by voters in 2018.

City Engineer Matt Watson stated “I greatly appreciate ODOT’s support for our project and their continued partnership with the City of Tiffin. U. S. 224 is one of the city’s higher traffic volume roadways and these funds will ensure the roadway is being maintained at the high level standard that our residents and visitors deserve.”

Mayor Dawn Iannantuono said, “I want to thank ODOT for choosing Tiffin for this grant I am especially grateful Engineer Watson and his staff for their hard work on this project.”
