Small City Program to aid in reconstruction of North Sandusky Street

TIFFIN, Ohio – Aug. 23, 2023 – The City of Tiffin has been selected to receive Small City Program funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation. Annually this program awards approximately $10 million with a maximum request of up to $20 million per application. This year over $30 million was requested. $1,658,961 in federal funds will be provided, and will cover 95% of the construction and construction administration and inspection costs to reconstruct North Sandusky Street (SR 53) between Hall Street and Tomb Street.

Funding will become available in July of 2025 with construction scheduled to begin in early 2026. In addition to fully rebuilding the roadway between Hall Street and Tomb Street, the city is also proposing to resurface North Sandusky Street north of Tomb Street simultaneously with this project. Additional federal funding is being pursued to offset the additional resurfacing costs.

With this grant award, since 2018, the City Engineer's Office has now successfully leveraged nearly $11.5 million in local, state and federal grand funds for community infrastructure projects.

City Engineer Matt Watson stated "I thank ODOT for their continued support and partnership in regard to our road and bridge infrastructure. North Sandusky Street not only supports the City of Tiffin locally, but also, regionally, thus the level of service and condition of the roadway is pivotal to the future expansion and growth of our city. These grant funds will now allow us to appropriately repair the roadway so that it can provide safe and efficient transportation needs for many years to come."
