Planters, hanging baskets maintained by community members

TIFFIN, Ohio – October 17, 2022 – Each year, the City of Tiffin is proud to have many volunteers who give of their time and efforts to keep our downtown, parks and city entrances looking beautiful by maintaining the flowers and hanging baskets.

Each year, the City provides the plants and soil for the planters, as well as water and equipment for those who help with the hanging baskets. There are 80 box planters in Downtown Tiffin, which were purchased by the Tiffin Shade Tree and Beautification Commission and using grants from the OSS Competitive Funding Grant and the Meshech Frost Charitable Trust, with help from Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership’s Downtown Main Street Program which assisted in obtaining the grants.

Many volunteers and local businesses and organizations provide the planting of flowers and maintaining the planters and landscaping areas and watering the hanging baskets is done by many volunteers and local businesses and organizations who give their time toward the project.

Mayor Dawn Iannantuono said, “I am grateful to the volunteers who commit to helping with the care of our planters and hanging baskets. It is through your efforts that we keep this program going year after year.”

Volunteers are always welcome, either to water the hanging baskets or to plant and maintain flowers. Individuals and community groups may pledge their time, and those interested in volunteering are encouraged to contact the Mayor’s office at (419) 448-5401 or by emailing cityoftiffin@tiffinohio.gov. There is currently a need for volunteers to help with the landscaping at a few of our parks, memorials and the city entrance signs.
