Tips for efficient trash pick up

TIFFIN, Ohio – August 22, 2023 – During a meeting Monday, Tiffin City Council members were updated on mid-year collection numbers from Rumpke Waste and Recycling.
From January to July of 2022, totals show 548.33 tons of recyclables were collected. For the same months of 2023, reports show that 571.07 tons were collected, showing an approximately 4% increase in collected product. Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) has decreased by 0.72%, showing 3124.23 tons disposed of in January to July of 2022, with numbers from the same months of 2023 as 3146.62 tons. As a reminder to residents for continued safety and care of property, Rumpke recommends toters be placed approximately 3 feet away from pavement and any obstacles such as mail boxes, parked cars or utility poles. When putting toters out for collection, assure the handles are facing away from the street, and the lid is fully closed. These guidelines allow for the technology of the specialized collection trucks to aid in a faster and more efficient process, thus resulting in a lower fee to residents.

Rumpke also provides residents with reminders on accepted recyclable materials:
- Paper products, such as magazines and cardboard,
- Plastic bottles, jugs, and tubs and their attached lids
- Metal soup and cola cans,
- Glass of any color
- Cartons with caps and straws removed

Non-recyclable materials include:
- Plastic bags - Batteries and other household hazardous materials
- Clothing
- Scrap metals
- Garden hoses and pet leashes
